Host AI coding agents on a dedicated Mac mini

AI coding agents work best on a machine that stays on: long tasks finish, scheduled runs happen, and the repository, toolchain, and credentials are already there. A MacMiniNode Mac mini is a dedicated physical Mac that you control, where you install the agent tooling you already pay for and let it work while your laptop is closed.

Who it is for

  • Developers running Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, or similar agents for hours at a time
  • Teams automating code review, migrations, test writing, or documentation on a schedule
  • Builders of macOS-dependent automation that needs a real Mac rather than a Linux container
  • Anyone who does not want agents running with full access to their personal computer

What AI agent hosting means here

We provide the always-on Mac. You install the agent (for example Claude Code or OpenAI Codex), sign in with your own subscription or API key, and run it however you like: interactively over SSH, inside tmux sessions, or on a schedule with launchd or cron.

MacMiniNode does not resell AI subscriptions, does not operate the agents for you, and is not affiliated with Anthropic, OpenAI, or Apple. The rental covers the machine, macOS, power, connectivity, and support.

Why a dedicated Mac for agents

  • Always on: tasks keep running after you disconnect, and scheduled jobs run on time
  • Isolation: agents run on a machine that is separate from your personal files and sessions
  • macOS-native: agents can drive Xcode, simulators, and Mac-only tooling
  • Persistent state: repositories, caches, and credentials stay set up between runs
  • Full-machine resources: a 12-core CPU, 16GB unified memory, and a 256GB SSD with no noisy neighbours

A typical setup

  1. STEP 1

    Connect and install

SSH in, install your runtime (Node.js, Python) and the agent CLI, and authenticate with your own account.

  2. STEP 2

    Clone your repositories

Set up Git credentials or deploy keys scoped to the work the agent will do.

  3. STEP 3

    Run long tasks in tmux

Start the agent inside a tmux session so it survives disconnects; reattach from any device to check progress.

  4. STEP 4

    Schedule what repeats

Use launchd or cron for nightly test runs, dependency updates, or report generation.

Limits and responsibilities

  • Your subscriptions and API usage are billed to you by the AI provider, not by MacMiniNode
  • Agents act with the permissions you give them; scope credentials and review what they change
  • Use must stay within the Acceptable Use Policy: developer and business computing, not abuse, scraping at scale, or activity that violates third-party terms
  • Memory is fixed at 16GB; running several large local models at once is not what this configuration is for

How remote access works

Your Mac mini stays powered on in our facility. You connect to it over the internet from a Mac, Windows PC, Linux machine, or tablet using two supported methods: SSH for the terminal, and remote desktop for the full macOS interface.

Connection details and step-by-step instructions appear inside your signed-in dashboard once the machine is ready; we never send credentials by plain email. Your files, tools, and sessions persist between connections, so you can disconnect and pick up where you left off.

Setup and onboarding

  1. STEP 1

    Create an account

Sign up with your email or Google account and verify your address. No payment is collected at this step.

  2. STEP 2

    Request your Mac

Tell us how you plan to use it and accept the terms. We review every request by hand.

  3. STEP 3

    We prepare the machine

A team member assigns a dedicated Mac mini to you, installs a clean copy of macOS, and configures secure remote access.

  4. STEP 4

    Start your subscription and connect

When it is ready we email you. You set up payment, billing starts at activation, and your connection details appear in the dashboard.

Questions about this

Can I run Claude Code on a rented Mac mini?

Yes. Install Claude Code on the machine and sign in with your own Anthropic subscription or API key. It runs over SSH like on any Mac; use tmux so sessions persist after you disconnect. The subscription is not included in the rental.

Can I run an AI agent 24/7 on the Mac mini?

The machine is always on, so an agent can run continuously or on a schedule. Keep usage within the Acceptable Use Policy and within the limits of your AI provider’s terms.

Can I run local LLMs on the Mac mini?

Small and medium models that fit in 16GB of unified memory can run with tools that support Apple silicon. Larger models need more memory than this configuration offers.

Does MacMiniNode operate the agents for me?

No. We provide and operate the hardware and macOS; you install, configure, and run the agents. Support covers the machine and access, not the agent software itself.
