A Mac mini in the cloud, without the virtualization

A “cloud Mac mini” is simply a Mac mini that lives somewhere else and that you use remotely. With MacMiniNode it is a dedicated physical machine, not a virtual Mac running on a shared server. You get the full performance of Apple silicon, a persistent macOS environment, and access from any device with an internet connection.

Who it is for

  • Windows and Linux users who need macOS occasionally or constantly without a second computer
  • Remote workers who want their development environment to stay running while they travel
  • Developers who want a macOS environment that is separate from their personal machine
  • Anyone comparing virtual Mac services with dedicated hardware

Cloud Mac mini versus a local Mac

A local Mac is in front of you with zero latency and no monthly fee after purchase. A cloud Mac mini costs a monthly fee, adds network latency to interactive work, and depends on your internet connection, but it keeps running when your laptop is closed, is reachable from any device, and does not tie up your personal machine with builds, test suites, or agents.

Many customers use both: a laptop for editing and a hosted Mac mini for the long-running work.

What a cloud Mac mini costs

The current plan is $129 per month for a dedicated 2026 Mac mini M6 with 16GB unified memory and a 256GB SSD. There is no setup fee and no annual commitment. Third-party subscriptions such as AI coding tools or the Apple Developer Program are not included.

How remote access works

Your Mac mini stays powered on in our facility. You connect to it over the internet from a Mac, Windows PC, Linux machine, or tablet using two supported methods: SSH for the terminal, and remote desktop for the full macOS interface.

Connection details and step-by-step instructions appear inside your signed-in dashboard once the machine is ready; we never send credentials by plain email. Your files, tools, and sessions persist between connections, so you can disconnect and pick up where you left off.

Setup and onboarding

  1. STEP 1

    Create an account

Sign up with your email or Google account and verify your address. No payment is collected at this step.

  2. STEP 2

    Request your Mac

Tell us how you plan to use it and accept the terms. We review every request by hand.

  3. STEP 3

    We prepare the machine

A team member assigns a dedicated Mac mini to you, installs a clean copy of macOS, and configures secure remote access.

  4. STEP 4

    Start your subscription and connect

When it is ready we email you. You set up payment, billing starts at activation, and your connection details appear in the dashboard.

Real limitations and requirements

  • Machines are prepared by people, not provisioned instantly. Expect days, not minutes; your dashboard shows each stage.
  • One customer per computer. Sharing a machine among several end users, reselling access, or sublicensing is not permitted.
  • Administrator access is included but subject to security and licensing requirements: you cannot disable the management controls we rely on, and macOS use must follow Apple’s software license terms.
  • Permitted use is developer and business computing: software development, testing, CI, automation, and AI coding agents. See the Acceptable Use Policy.
  • No physical access to the hardware, and no hardware changes (memory and storage are fixed at the configuration you rent).
  • Third-party subscriptions are not included: Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, the Apple Developer Program, and any licensed software are yours to bring.
  • You are responsible for your own backups. When a rental ends, the storage is securely erased before the hardware is reassigned.

Questions about this

Is a cloud Mac mini the same as a virtual machine?

Not at MacMiniNode. Your cloud Mac mini is a physical computer dedicated to you. We do not run a hypervisor or other customers’ workloads on it.

What internet connection do I need?

SSH works comfortably on almost any connection. Remote desktop is smoother on a stable connection with low latency; a wired or strong Wi‑Fi link gives the best experience for interactive GUI work.

Can I access the cloud Mac from an iPad or a Chromebook?

Yes. Any device with an SSH client or a remote desktop client that supports the configured protocol can connect. Details are provided in your dashboard when the machine is ready.
