Short answer
Dedicated Mac mini hosting means a provider owns, powers, and connects a physical Mac mini that is assigned to one customer, who uses it remotely. At MacMiniNode, staff install a clean macOS, configure SSH and remote desktop access, deliver credentials in the customer’s dashboard, bill monthly, and securely erase the machine when the rental ends.
The hardware side
Each hosted machine is a standard Apple Mac mini, in our case the 2026 model with the M6 chip, 16GB unified memory, and a 256GB SSD. It sits in our facility with power and a network connection. Nothing is virtualized: the operating system runs directly on the hardware, which is why Xcode, simulators, and other Apple tooling behave exactly as they do on a desk.
Dedicated means one customer per machine. We track every Mac mini through its lifecycle: available, reserved for a customer, assigned and in use, and then reimaged after a rental ends. A machine is never handed to a new customer until its storage has been securely erased and macOS reinstalled.
How access is delivered
Two supported methods: SSH for the terminal and remote desktop for the full macOS interface. We configure both during preparation. Connection details are shown only inside your signed-in dashboard, never sent by plain email, and you receive administrator access subject to security and licensing requirements.
For the technical background on each method, Apple documents remote login with SSH and screen sharing in the macOS User Guide.
How billing works
- One flat monthly price per machine ($129 today), billed in advance for each period
- No setup fee and no annual commitment
- Billing starts at activation, after the machine is ready; nothing is charged for a machine that is never activated
- Cancel the next renewal from your dashboard; service continues to the end of the paid period
- Payments are processed by Helcim; MacMiniNode never stores full card numbers
What the provider controls, and what you control
| Area | MacMiniNode | You |
|---|---|---|
| Hardware, power, network | Operates and maintains | No physical access |
| macOS installation | Prepares a clean install | Install software, change most settings |
| Security controls | Management tooling needed to run the service | Cannot disable it; can harden your own accounts |
| Your data and backups | Does not keep copies; erases at end | Responsible for backups |
| Third-party licenses | Not included | Bring your own (AI tools, Apple Developer Program, apps) |
Licensing, briefly
macOS on the machine is covered by Apple’s software license agreement, which has specific terms for leased hardware. We operate within those terms and ask customers to as well; that is why machines are single-customer and why some restrictions exist. MacMiniNode is independent of Apple and not endorsed by it.
Is MacMiniNode the right option?
This is exactly the service MacMiniNode provides. It suits customers who want a single-tenant Mac operated by people and are comfortable with staff-paced provisioning rather than instant virtual machines.
